Always bring multiple copies of your professional 8x10 headshot and acting resume. Ensure they are recent and appropriate for the industry. Avoid using smaller photos, casual snapshots, or resumes listing non-acting-related experiences.
Dress to suggest the character, but keep these rules in mind: avoid pure white or black, logos, small prints, or trendy styles. Opt for neat, tailored clothing and polished grooming. Hair should be styled, nails clean, and makeup professional.
Check in advance if there are lines ("sides") to practice and arrive early to review instructions. Use the waiting room time to focus rather than socialize, showing professionalism and dedication.
Practice your lines out loud before the audition. Be prepared to deliver them in different ways and take direction. If you make a mistake, keep going—don’t ask to start over unless prompted by the casting director.
Don’t ask when you’ll hear back about the role. Avoid blaming others for mistakes or outcomes. Instead, use each audition as a learning experience. Memorize lines and refine your cold-reading skills to build credibility as an actor.
If your agent doesn’t have accounts with any of the industry standard sites, you can and should create your own account on each of them. Industry standard sites offer free versions, which will allow Casting Directors to find you on the site(s) they most prefer.
